AUSTIN – The Mega Millions jackpot is the third largest in Mega Millions history!

AUSTIN – The Mega Millions jackpot is the third largest in Mega Millions history! The jackpot for Tuesday's Mega Millions® drawing continues to climb after there were no winners in Friday night's draw. With an estimated annuitized jackpot prize of $1.1 billion, Mega Millions' third largest jackpot prize and fifth largest in the history of the United States lottery is now at an estimated annuitized $1.1 billion. A cash value of $576.8 million is available for tonight's drawing.

If no one claims the top prize for tonight's Mega Millions drawing, then the jackpot prize for the Jan. 13 draw could reach an estimated $1.35 billion. Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, remarked that "the Mega Millions jackpot has climbed above $1 billion and Texans now have another opportunity to become a billionaire". He further noted that Texas public education stands to benefit immensely from this incredible mega-prize run.In addition to reminding our players to play responsibly, it only takes one ticket to win. We urge you to sign the winning lottery ticket, store it in a safe place, seek legal and financial advice, and contact the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim the prize if you appear to have it.

On Tuesday, the 25th drawing in the current Mega Millions jackpot run is set to take place – and it offers an estimated annuitized $20 million. This is the largest jackpot available since July 29, 2022, when it reached an astounding $1.28 billion (the game’s second-largest prize ever), won by a player from out of state. There's still time to claim a second-tier reward of $1 million from that same draw – but you must act fast if you want to get your hands on it: the Texas Lottery deadline for claiming is 5 p.m., January 25.Plano recently claimed a $1 million winning ticket from the same drawing.

The Texas Lottery has had 13 Mega Millions jackpot prize winners since it joined the game in 2003. The most recent prize winner was a Leander resident who won an estimated annuitized $227 million in September 2019.

In 2022, thirteen players from the Texas Lottery won second-tier prizes in the Mega Millions game, with each prize being worth $1 million or more. During the current rollover of the jackpot, three players from the Texas Lottery have won similar second-tier prizes. One of these winners, a resident of Whitesboro, claimed a prize of $3 million for the drawing held on November 1, 2022. Additionally, two second-tier prize-winning tickets worth $1 million each were sold at the same retailer, Luck Zone, located at 1250 E. Palm Valley Blvd. in Round Rock, for the drawings on December 20, 2022 and January 3, 2023. However, these prizes have yet to be claimed.

The Mega Millions game is played by selecting five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from a separate field of 25. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn, including the Mega Ball. However, players who match fewer numbers may still win smaller prizes. The game currently has a starting jackpot of $20 million and a second-tier prize (Match 5+0) of $1 million. An optional Megaplier® feature can also be chosen for an additional $1 per play, allowing players to multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, with a potential payout of up to $5 million.

Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT, and tickets can be purchased at over 20,000 Texas Lottery retailers across the state. Ticket sales for the next drawing will close at 9:45 p.m. CT on Tuesday, January 10th. Retailers who sell a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket may be eligible to receive up to a $1 million bonus.
